Talking HeaDS - March 2025
Talking HeaDS - Health Data Science Seminar and Networking Series
This must be the place to hear about the latest and greatest in the expanding field of health data science. The mission of the Center for Health Data Science is to not only strengthen health data science within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (SUND) at the University of Copenhagen, but to serve as a hub for researchers using health data science.
Speaker: Cedric Notredame
Cedric Notredame is a group leader at the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG), a non-profit foundation funded by the Catalan Government through the Department of Business & Knowledge and the Department of Health, the Spanish Ministry of Science & Innovation, the "la Caixa" Banking Foundation, and includes the participation of Pompeu Fabra University. The mission of the CRG is to discover and advance knowledge for the benefit of society, public health and economic prosperity. The Notredam group is situated in the Computational Biology and Health Genomics research programme at CRG.
The main focus of the Notredame group is the development of novel algorithms for the comparison of multiple biological sequences. Multiple comparisons have the advantage of precisely revealing evolutionary traces, thus allowing the identification of functional constraints imposed on the evolution of biological entities. Most comparisons are currently carried out on the basis of sequence similarity.
The goal of the Notredame group is to extend this scope by allowing comparisons based on any relevant biological signal such as sequence homology, structural similarity, genomic structure, functional similarity and more generally any signal that may be identified within biological sequences.
Using such heterogeneous signals serves to (i) produce better models that take advantage of the signal evolutionary resilience and (ii) improve the understanding of the evolutionary processes that lead to the diversification of biological functions.
The Talking HeaDS seminar series offers:
- Presentations on research developments across disciplines that leverage data science methodologies
- Question and answer sessions with researchers
- Networking, mingling, and refreshments to strengthen relationships across health data science
It may not be a once in a lifetime opportunity, but you won't want to miss these events!
