Research Services
HeaDS services can be used by SUND researchers and employees. In many circumstances, we can also support Region H and other hospital employees, depending on staff availability.
Consultations and commissions, however, are not intended for bachelor or master students.

SERVICES
CONSULTATIONS
Do you need someone to talk through your ideas or issues with your research project? HeaDS hosts consultations to help troubleshoot problems and support SUND researchers in their work.
- Send an email to datalab@sund.ku.dk explaining the problem you are facing, so one of our data scientists can prepare and coordinate with you
- Arrive on the drop in day agreed on with the data scientist
- Spend 15-20 minutes with the data scientist and get answers to your questions, guidance on best practices, or tips on how to improve your analysis!
- If your questions necessitate more time with the data scientist, they can discuss your options for longer term assistance
Our data scientists are here to help you! Check out our areas of expertise:
Omics data analysis (DNA, RNA, proteins, lipids, genomics, etc.)
Need help analyzing omics data? We offer guidance on methods, tools, and workflows for processing and interpreting high-throughput biological datasets.
Experimental design & technical issues pertaining to big biomedical data
Are you planning a study with complex biomedical data? We help you design robust experiments and address technical challenges to ensure reliable downstream analysis.
High performance compute (HPC) onboarding
Don’t know where to start with getting started on an HPC system? We offer support with setup, job scheduling, and efficient use of computational resources for large-scale analyses.
GDPR compliance & FAIR principles
Overwhelmed by the rules and regulations for handling sensitive data? We help you navigate GDPR requirements while implementing FAIR data principles for responsible and reusable research.
Reproducible science, research data management (RDM), git & docker containers
Need to make your research more reproducible? We support you in setting up version control, containerized workflows, and structured RDM practices.
nf-core pipelines
Not sure where to start with nf-core pipelines? We provide guidance on selecting, configuring, and adapting standardized workflows for your analyses.
ML models for biological sequencing data
Need help applying machine learning to sequencing data? We offer guidance on model selection, implementation, and interpretation for biological applications.
Technical support for R and Python programming
We can provide support with coding, debugging, and optimizing data analysis workflows. Check out our courses, too!
Consultations are free!
However, sessions are available based on data scientist availability and are confined to short-term sessions.
The aim of a consultations is to provide a format to address specific technical data science and bioinformatics questions on a short-term basis.
If you are interested in:
- Project supervision,
- Extended project support,
- A collaborative partnership, or
- Commissioning HeaDS to perform your project analysis,
you have options! One of our data scientists can discuss setting up a formal supervision or commission framework to meet your research goals.
COMMISSIONED RESEARCH
Would you rather hire the DataLab to perform your analyses for you? We can work with you to perform tailored, end-to-end analyses of complex biological and health datasets.
Send an email to HeaDS describing your research, the type of work you are considering outsourcing for your project, and any other relevant introductory information. You will be connected with staff who have the expertise to take the next steps.
Genomics (population genomics, ancient DNA and metagenomics)
Seeking insights from genomic data? We analyze genetic variation, evolutionary patterns, and microbial communities using advanced computational approaches.
Single-cell and bulk sequencing
DataLab can assist in interpreting sequencing data. We analyze single-cell and bulk datasets to uncover biological signals, cell types, and functional patterns.
Quantitative mass spectrometry (proteins, lipids, glycans, metabolites)
We can perform quantitative analysis and biological interpretation of proteomics, metabolomics, and related datasets.
Spatial transcriptomics
Looking for support in understanding gene expression in spatial context? We analyze spatial transcriptomics data to reveal tissue structure and cellular interactions.
ML models for sequencing data
Are you in need of custom machine learning solutions? We develop and apply models tailored to sequencing data for prediction and pattern discovery.
Data wrangling, manipulation, and clean-up
Feeling overwhelmed at the thought of preparing your data for analysis? We clean, structure, and integrate datasets to ensure high quality and usability.
Custom development
Do you require a tailored computational solution? We develop custom scripts, pipelines, and tools designed specifically for your research needs.
Shiny apps, websites, and tool development
Need interactive tools to explore or share your data? We build Shiny apps and web-based solutions for visualization and communication of results.
Costs depend on the complexity and duration of the project. A specific quotes can be generated once we know more about the project.
The earlier you contact HeaDS for commissioned research support, the better. We can help with experimental design and project planing phases so your research trajectory moves forward smoothly. You are also welcome to reach out later in the process for data cleaning or analysis support.
We are eager to help, but HeaDS may not always be equipped with the expertise required to support every project. If we cannot support a project, we will provide guidance on where you can find help.
